The Glory of the Earth — Alaa Albaldawi
A golden world of amber, sienna, and deep earth tones. A monumental female figure stands at the centre, a goddess, mother, civilisation which is surrounded by the full vocabulary of Mesopotamian life: a fish held like an offering, a bull emerging from the right, ancient idol-like faces watching from every corner, and a luminous disc radiating from above. The paint is thick, layered, pressed into the canvas like earth itself. Five thousand years of abundance and myth that is held inside 70×70cm.
