Wondering Eyes — Alaa Albaldawi
A whole civilisation gathered on a single canvas. Faces upon faces, ancient idol figures, fish-people, owl-creatures, mothers, watchers, dreamers, and all pressing forward from a golden, star-patterned sky as if history itself has shown up at once. A great moon-face presides from above, calm and vast. Below it, the world teems: a rooster struts at the bottom, a fishing net spills its texture into the paint, a small candle burns quietly at the lower right, a keyhole waits in the corner, locked, or unlocked, we cannot tell. Signed 2026, yet it feels like it was painted five thousand years ago and yesterday at the same time. This is not a painting about eyes that wonder. It is a painting that wonders at everything, at life, at survival, at the sheer improbable fullness of being human in a fractured world.
